News, Board Operator Positions For Students
WSIE-FM (88.7) The Jazz Station at SIUE offers paid, part-time positions (when available) for currently enrolled students interested in gathering news, writing news reports for radio broadcast and broadcasting morning and afternoon drive time news (usual shifts 5-8:30 a.m. and 2-5:30 p.m. weekdays) on WSIE. In addition, positions are available for reporting on breaking news as well as operating an audio board for Cougar sports events.
Applicants will be interviewed and auditioned by WSIE News Coordinator Peter Bradley, an experienced electronic journalist. If accepted, applicants will then undergo a period of unpaid training; upon commencement of part-time work, the pay rate is $8.25 per hour. Greg Conroy, general manager of WSIE-FM, will interview board operator applicants.
Positions include:
News broadcaster:Must have interest as well as a desire to become part of broadcast journalism. The News broadcaster gathers news, writes for news broadcast and broadcasts on-air during morning and afternoon drive time news programming. Dependability is of the utmost importance.
Audio broadcast board operator: During Cougar sports events, the board operator must coordinate operations with broadcast crews from whatever location, whether on campus or at away games. Programming operations must be accurate to the second. Work hours usually are weeknights and weekends. Applicant must have basic knowledge of broadcast consoles and have basic knowledge of sports. Dependability in fulfilling scheduled assignments is of the utmost importance.
